Nước muối (natri clorid) được pha chế với tỷ lệ 0,9%, tức 1 lít nước với 9g muối tinh khiết, được gọi là nước muối sinh lý và dùng được cho mọi lứa tuổi. Trong y học, nước muối sinh lý được coi như một loại thuốc có khả năng hấp thu tốt qua đường tiêu hóa và đặc biệt có thể hấp thu rất nhanh bằng đường tiêm truyền tĩnh mạch…
Ngoài việc dùng để cung cấp và bổ sung nước cũng như chất điện giải cho cơ thể (dùng theo đường tiêm truyền theo chỉ định của bác sĩ) thì nước muối sinh lý còn có tác dụng:
– Dùng làm thuốc nhỏ/rửa mắt: Nên rửa mắt bằng nước muối sinh lý 0,9% dạng nhỏ mắt hàng ngày. Rửa mắt làm trôi đi mầm bệnh, đẩy rỉ ra ngoài, làm ẩm và an dịu cho bề mặt nhãn cầu. Lưu ý, cần dùng loại nước muối do các công ty dược sản xuất dùng riêng cho mắt, bên ngoài nhãn của lọ thuốc có hình con mắt, thường đóng lọ 10ml. Không được tự pha nước muối để nhỏ mắt.
– Dùng làm thuốc nhỏ/rửa mũi:
Dùng nước muối sinh lý nhỏ trực tiếp hoặc dưới dạng khí dung có tác dụng làm sạch mũi – họng. Nước muối sinh lý dùng để rửa mũi được pha chế dạng 100ml, 500ml, nhưng cũng có người sử dụng nước muối sinh lý truyền tĩnh mạch hoặc dùng nước mũi nhỏ mắt để rửa mũi. Cần lưu ý, thuốc dùng để nhỏ mắt có thể dùng để nhỏ mũi nhưng thuốc dùng để nhỏ mũi thì không dùng nhỏ mắt.
Mũi là cửa ngõ đầu tiên của cơ quan hô hấp, tiếp xúc với rất nhiều bụi bặm, các hóa chất độc hại và các yếu tố gây bệnh. Khi bị viêm nhiễm, dùng nước muối sinh lý để làm sạch lớp mủ trước khi sử dụng thuốc để thuốc tác dụng trực tiếp vào lớp biểu mô của niêm mạc mũi và phát huy vai trò chữa bệnh. Nhưng khi mũi hoàn toàn trong trạng thái bình thường, thì không nên sử dụng nước muối thường xuyên để rửa mũi. Vì việc sử dụng thường xuyên nước muối sinh lý để làm sạch mũi sẽ vô tình làm mất đi lớp thảm nhầy bảo vệ mũi vốn có, mất đi chức năng bảo vệ mũi của lớp thảm này và gây tổn thương niêm mạc mũi. Chính vì thế mũi lại hay bị viêm hơn. Có thể sử dụng nước muối sinh lý một lần mỗi tuần, đặc biệt là khi làm việc hoặc đi lại ở những vùng nhiều bụi bặm.
– Dùng để súc miệng – họng: Để thuận tiện có thể dùng muối ăn (NaCl): 1 thìa cà phê (5g) pha trong 1 cốc nước ấm vừa giúp bảo vệ lớp tế bào niêm mạc họng vừa có tác dụng sát khuẩn. Một số người quan niệm nước muối nồng độ càng cao thì sát khuẩn càng tốt. Điều này là hoàn toàn sai lầm. Nếu dùng nước muối quá đặc (mặn) để súc miệng – họng rất dễ gây tổn thương các tế bào ở miệng – họng. Nồng độ nước muối phù hợp là 0,9% (tương đương nước canh). Nên dùng nước muối để vệ sinh răng miệng sau đánh răng buổi tối, buổi sáng.
Cách súc: Ngậm 1 ngụm nước muối, ngửa cổ, há miệng kêu khà…khà…khà… sau đó ngậm miệng nghỉ một lát, lại ngửa cổ há miệng kêu, làm như vậy vài ba lần rồi nhổ đi. Mỗi lần làm 3 lượt. Không nên ngậm vào rồi nhổ ra ngay, nên cố gắng ngậm lâu tối đa, súc vài lần, mỗi lần vài ba ngụm không chỉ để sạch các nhày, mủ (nếu có) trong họng mà đảm bảo tác dụng sát khuẩn. Mỗi ngày nên thực hiện súc 1 – 3 lần.
