Nhà Phật có câu chuyện thế này:
Một cậu bé bị bỏ rơi được sư thầy nhặt được mang lên núi sống cuộc đời tu hành thanh đạm, không vướng một chút bụi trần.
Và sư thầy nghĩ cậu bé có duyên, có phước lắm mới được như thế này chứ không thì ô nhiễm cuộc sống trần gian đến bao giờ mới tẩy rửa được.
Đến tuổi trưởng thành, nhận thấy cậu bé, giờ đã là một chàng trai, suốt ngày miệng mỉm cười cho thấy tâm chàng không loạn động hay ưu phiền lo nghĩ chuyện gì, sư thầy dẫn cậu xuống núi để nhìn thấy người đời.
Xuống núi, vào chợ thấy gì chàng trai cũng hỏi, đây là con gà, kia là con vịt, chiếc xe sao lại chạy được; đến thấy người đàn bà chàng hỏi con gì đây, sư thầy bảo đó là người đàn bà, bà có thể sinh ra những đứa bé mới để cuộc sống được tiếp tục mãi.
Trong đầu chàng trai đã khởi niềm nghi không hiểu làm sao mà người đàn bà có thể sinh ra những đứa bé được. Đến gặp một cô gái, cô gái mỉm cười với chàng trai tuấn tú, mặt mũi sáng rỡ vì tâm trong sạch. Chàng trai hỏi thầy đây là con gì mà nó cười trông đẹp quá thầy ạ. Thấy có vẻ không an toàn sư thầy bảo: Đó là con cọp ở chợ.
Con cọp trên núi hung dữ ăn thịt người thế nào thì con cọp ở chợ cũng ăn thịt người như thế con ạ, hãy tránh xa nó ra! Về lại núi, nụ cười như tắt trên môi chàng trai, trông chàng buồn rầu, ưu phiền hẳn. Sư thầy mới hỏi, chàng trai trả lời: Con nhớ con cọp ở chợ!
