          HOÀNG CHƯƠNG

          Sau khi bảo phụ lái đóng kín cửa lên xuống, cậu tài trẻ nhìn nhanh ra phía sau, ngạc nhiên: “Ủa, sao xe mình đực rựa không hà?” Mà quả thật, chuyến xe chất lượng cao chạy tuyến Đà Nẵng-Tuy Hoà hôm ấy chỉ toàn là đàn ông.

          Một sĩ quan cấp tá đi công tác, mấy cậu sinh viên Phú Yên về quê nghỉ Tết, hai ông cụ thăm sui gia, một trung niên đi khám bệnh hồi gia… Trong tiếng nhạc nhè nhẹ, tiếng máy xe rì rì, không ai nói với ai điều gì. Cậu tài xế lại oang oang: “Các bác, các chú thấy chưa? Nãy giờ mà có mấy bả thì rôm rả đủ thứ chuyện trên trời dưới đất rồi. Thế mới biết, thiếu mấy chị em ta thì mày râu mình sống sao vui được?”. Trên xe rộ lên nhiều tiếng cười tán thưởng rồi ngay sau đó lại chìm vào im lặng…

          Bỗng nhớ trước năm 1975 ở Đà Nẵng. Hồi ấy, cả thành phố thủ phủ miền Trung có hai trường trung học công lập lớn nhất là Phan Châu Trinh và Hồng Đức. Nếu trường Phan Châu Trinh chỉ dành cho nam sinh thì trường Hồng Đức toàn là nữ sinh. Tuy hai trường chỉ cách nhau một khoảng đường ngắn nhưng bọn con trai Phan Châu Trinh chúng tôi rất ít có điều kiện gặp gỡ các bạn nữ. Chúng tôi chỉ có thể “đá long nheo” mấy cô mỗi khi các trường tập trung học sinh toàn thành cho những lễ lạt chung nào đấy (mà cũng rất hiếm hoi). Và cứ mỗi năm một lần, trường tôi in tập san đem bán tại các trường trong thành phố. Mỗi lần như vậy, chàng trưởng ban báo chí của trường vốn lợi khẩu có dịp trổ tài ăn nói với các nữ sinh Hồng Đức. Còn tôi, vừa sốt sắng giao tập san và thu tiền, vừa tranh thủ liếc vội những mắt biếc, môi xinh mà bụng cứ than thầm: Không biết ai bày ra cái chuyện tách riêng trường trai trường gái kỳ cục như ri? Nếu để học chung, biết đâu quê mình sẽ có nhiều bậc trí giả, nhiều nhà văn nổi tiếng tầm cỡ thế giới? Bởi vì có phái yếu lúng liếng lúng la gắn bó, kèm cặp thì sẽ có động lực thôi thúc óc sáng tạo ngay từ khi còn mài đũng quần trên ghế trường cấp ba.

          Rồi lại bâng khuâng nhớ cách đây không xa lắm. Mỗi lần bà xã về thăm quê ngoại Tam Quan mấy ngày, cha con tôi lại bẩn thẩn bần thần, ngơ ngẩn vào ra, mặt cứ ngác ngác ngơ ngơ như thời bao cấp bị mất sổ gạo. Đến bữa, tôi và thằng lớn mồ hôi mồ kê nhễ nhại đánh vật với nồi cơm trong bếp. Khi ăn, thằng út bâng quơ hỏi: “Khi nào má về hả ba? Con nhớ má quá”. Tối, nhìn hai cu cậu say giấc nồng, lòng trống vắng, lạnh tanh như chùa Bà Đanh, trơ khấc ngồi uống nước trà, tôi mong cho trời mau sáng.

          Nghĩ đi nghĩ lại, mới càng thấy kính nể mấy vị sống đơn thân từ khi trái tim biết loạn nhịp vì ánh mắt chơm chớp khó quên của cô hàng xóm cho đến đận nhắm mắt xuôi tay về với ông bà ông vải. Những nhà cách mạng vĩ đại, những bác học lỗi lạc vì đam mê, đau đáu bao chuyện đại sự thiêng liêng của quốc dân đồng bào, của bao phát kiến khoa học làm thay đổi cuộc sống nhân loại nên không có thời giờ lo hạnh phúc riêng tư thì đã đành một lẽ. Đằng này, các vị ấy hành trạng cũng chỉ lẩn quẩn trong mấy chữ cơm, áo, gạo, tiền mà tháng ngày cứ một mình thui thủi vào ra, càng cho ta thấy cái đa đoan vi diệu nhường nào của cuộc sống…

Giả sử một buổi sáng nào đó, cánh đàn ông chúng ta thức dậy và phát hiện ra là không còn các mẹ, các chị, các em bên cạnh. Thế thì có khác chi trời xuân không có chim ca, nắng đẹp, trái đất lạnh băng vì vắng bóng mặt trời. Và đúng là bi kịch!!!
