Sữa dê là thu nhập trong nhiều năm liền của cả nhà. Trong đàn dê gần trăm con ấy có bốn con dê đực, nhiệm vụ của chúng chỉ đơn giản là ăn cỏ và… không nói ra thì ai cũng biết.
Bỗng một hôm, con dê đực khoẻ nhất đột nhiên lăn ra ốm. Nó ăn uống bình thường nhưng lại hay thở khò khè, thỉnh thoảng khạc khạc có vẻ khó chịu.
Sau khi tìm đủ mọi cách tự chữa cho con dê ấy không được, bà chủ nhà quyết định mời một bác sĩ thú y đến nhà. Vị bác sĩ đến, khám cho con dê xong, hỏi:
– Nó ăn uống bình thường phải không, thưa bà?
– Vâng!
– Thế thì con dê nhà bà không mắc bệnh gì cả.
– Nhưng tại sao nó thở khó khè và khạc nhổ liên tục – Bà chủ nhà thắc mắc.
– À, chuyện đó là do nó có tật ngửi và cắn lông dê cái, lông dê cái trôi vào miệng làm nó khó thở và muốn khạc nhổ.
Bà chủ nhà nghe xong thì sắc mặt chuyển ngay sang màu tím:
– Trời ơi! Vậy bây giờ thì tôi đã hiểu tại sao tuần nào lão chồng tôi cũng lên thành phố rồi.
– Chắc ông nhà đi bán sữa dê?
– Không!
– Vậy thì ông ấy thích lên thành phố có liên quan gì đến bệnh tật của con dê này?
– Vì lão ta ăn uống bình thường, nhưng tối nào lão cũng thở khò khè, còn ban ngày thì lão lại khạc nhổ liên tục!
